This apple crisp recipe is the combination of sweet and crisp Ambrosia apples and Dulce de Leche topped with whipped cream. It is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
I use Ambrosia apples in this recipe for their natural honey flavour. They don’t brown as quickly as other apples and retain their shape when cooked, so they are perfect for use in baked desserts. You can find Ambrosia and other varieties of apples in the Fraser Valley at Taves Family Farms. Join them for their agritourism attraction called Applebarn – a family event that includes hay rides, a corn maze and more. They offer u-pick apples and 100% natural apple cider at their store during the Applebarn season.
If you love caramel as much as I do, you will love Dulce de Leche. It is similar to caramel and comes from sweetened milk, such as condensed milk. When heated, the sugar in the milk becomes caramelized and transforms into a golden-brown color with a sweet and creamy caramel flavour.
I love the colour, flavour and consistency of the President’s Choice brand, so that’s what I use.
I’ll be making this dessert in the fall to cook up at the cabin. There’s something about apple crisp that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! Ambrosia Apple Crisp with Dulce de Leche is a super fall dessert, but why not enjoy it all year round.
I hope this yummy apple dessert satisfies your sweet tooth!
