In August 2018 we kicked off the BC Day Long Weekend by purchasing a log cabin in Seymour Arm, British Columbia, and our dream of owning our own vacation property was realized! Now, the adventure begins!
In our search for a recreation property close to beaches, lakes and mountain trails – we found Seymour Arm. This remote community is located on the north end of Shuswap Lake. If you want to know more about why we chose Seymour Arm and a log cabin – Here is the low down:
The Shuswap is known as a true four-season destination, but we chose it for summer specific outdoor activities including swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, water-skiing and hiking. We are so excited to try new activities like fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
Our home away in the Shuswap is a five-hour drive from our home here in the Fraser Valley, so all we have to do is pack the car and drive straight there. Adding an extra day or two to a weekend can really make the trip feel like a mini vacation.
This remote location – accessible only by driving 40 km on a logging road, is not for everyone – but for us this peaceful and pristine location is perfect!
Like many of you, my husband and I have been dreaming of owning a recreational property to create a place where our family can make memories year after year. After looking at several properties, we realized what we really wanted was a cabin or cottage, not just a second home. It had to have that rustic, away from it all feel. We finally found that in a log cabin on 2.5 acres. The cabin is a blank canvas for our creativity and the acreage provides space to grow while offering peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of our life in the city.
Our little cabin in the woods set-up is semi off-grid, as we have a septic system and are connected to the community water system. Currently we use a wood burning fireplace for heat and solar/generator power for electricity.
We have several improvements planned to enhance both the comfort and character of the cabin. We will install a propane gas fireplace, hardwood floors and DECORATE – both inside and out!
I’m excited to share our projects and adventures with you and hope they inspire you to create and explore based on your own interests – whether they be at home or away!
