Rustic Wood Rounds Wreath

Add instant charm to your front door for the holidays with this Rustic Wood Rounds Wreath!

Wreaths are one of my favourite ways to change up the seasons in our home. They are fun to make, and give guests a sneak peek of what’s inside our home for the holidays!

Add the rustic charm of this Rustic Wood Rounds Wreath to your holiday decor!

This stunning wreath works from November throughout the winter with its wood rounds base and woodland theme ribbon.

For the wood rounds in this Rustic Wood Rounds Wreath, we used logs from trees that came down on our log cabin property in the Shuswap. Thin slices of wood were cut from a dried log using a chop saw. The wood discs are approximately 4 inches in diameter and a half-inch thick. The slices were dried and sanded before using.

If you don’t have access to the wood on your property, look for natural wood rounds sold locally at craft stores, or you can purchase natural pine wood rounds online at Amazon.

How to Make a Rustic Wood Rounds Wreath

SUPPLIES

  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon for bow
  • Flat wreath form (14″ or 16″)
  • Natural wood rounds (approx. 18 to 20)
  • Clear engine enamel or polyurethane spray
  • Adjustable light ties

All of the supplies, except for the wood rounds, were purchased from Michaels, Dollarama and Lowe’s.

Step 1.

In a well ventilated area, such as in a garage with the door open, place the wood rounds on a sheet of packing paper or cardboard. Do not use newsprint as the colour may bleed onto the wood rounds when sprayed. Spray a fine coat of clear engine enamel or polyurethane spray over the wood rounds and let dry for two hours.

I just love the look of the natural wood grain!

Step 2.

Lay the first layer of larger wood rounds on the wreath form, finding the correct size to fill in all gaps.

Step 3.

Using a hot glue gun, glue the first layer of wood rounds directly onto the wreath form. Let dry for 10 minutes. If your front door is exposed to the elements, you can use an outdoor weatherproof wood glue that will be more durable and water-resistant.

Step 4.

Add a second layer overlapping where the first layer pieces meet. I used slightly smaller wood rounds for the second layer. If the first layer of wood rounds is uneven, you may need a larger bead of glue to fill the gap.

Step 5.

Use your creativity to embellish the wreath how you choose. I made a bow using an adorable Woodland Buffalo Plaid Bear, Tree and Moose – Wired Ribbon! I’m a fan of red and black Buffalo Plaid or Buffalo Check for Christmas decor – it pops against the natural wood rounds.

If you are adding a bow, attach it to the wreath form using an adjustable light tie. Trim away the extra length of the light tie. For an extra pop of colour, you can attach a festive seasonal floral spray or pick through the centre of the bow using a small adjustable light tie or floral wire.

All that’s left is for you to do is hang the gorgeous wreath on the front door or above the mantel.

So easy! So rustic! Perfect for the cabin, cottage or your rustic farmhouse or country styled home!
